Kaitlyn's Visit with Santa

I know, we don't believe in Santa and won't overly encourage it with Kaitlyn, but there was a coupon in the paper for a free 5x7 with Santa at the mall so I thought, why not? It will look cute. I know her headband fell down a little low, but other than that, I still think she looks super cute.

I Stand Corrected...

Apparently we were not hit the hardest in the valley with snow. Seems if we had stayed in Surrey, we probably would need more digging out than we do here. And Ryan and Colin opened up the chimney access panel after being given the go-ahead from the landlord - seems it's not a furry animal making all the noise, there are 2 birds. One dead, one alive. Lovely. The landlord said he would be coming by tomorrow to figure out what happens next. The dead one has been dead for sometime so it shouldn't pose any immediate health hazards. All the same, I'll feel better once they're both gone and the chimney is cleaned out.

Update: The birds are gone! Ryan was sick and tired of hearing the bird flap around from the chimney to the exhaust fan so he trapped it inside the pipe, clamped both sides, and let it fly away outside. Both bird and husband are doing fine. I kept saying he was insane for doing this on his own and his only reply was "I'm not insane, I'm a guy." I'm just glad the bird is gone.

Let It Snow!

Well, it has finally stopped snowing but we are supposed to get at least another centimetre before nightfall. The forecast keeps changing so maybe we'll get more, maybe we'll get less. I can't remember the last time I've seen this much snow! Living in Surrey almost all my life, I'm thinking maybe the move to Chilliwack wasn't a good idea?? OK, that's not fair, Chilliwack is only an hour away from Surrey so this is rather odd for here as well. But the snow dump has made some kind of furry creature retreat into our chimney. We first thought it was a squirrel but whatever it was destroyed the hood fan (which is connected to the unused fireplace chimney) so it is probably something bigger, possibly a raccoon. We'll wait around until tonight to see if it is intelligent to find its own way out, otherwise, we'll contact the landlord tomorrow to find out what he wants to do about it. Kaitlyn loves the snow! She loves to be held up to the window and says "ooooo" as she watches it fall.

Today Was a Good Day

Kaitlyn was so good all day today. She even let Mommy go back to bed and sleep until around 9:30 this morning! She was so happy, I couldn't resist dressing her up and taking a few photos.

Kaitlyn's Pictures & 6 Month Checkup

Kaitlyn did awesome today!! I was having a hard time putting her down for a nap this morning so I dressed her in some other clothes (not the ones for the pictures), packed her diaper bag and put her in the van. By the time we got to the mall, she was asleep (yay!!). She slept for a good 45 minutes and woke up 15 minutes before her photo appointment. She was all smiles and it was so hard choosing pictures because they were all so cute. Needless to say, I spent way too much (I had a bunch of enhancements done) but it was so worth it. I can't wait to share them when they're ready on December 6!

Kaitlyn's 6 month checkup went great too. She fell asleep just as we were leaving the house for the appointment and I thought, "oh no, she is going to be so miserable for the doctor!" This was her first time meeting her new doctor since our move to Chilliwack and I didn't want him to regret taking us as new patients. Well, she woke up as I was undressing her to have her weighed and smiled and smiled! The doctor and nurse called her the "happy smiley baby"! Everything checked out great! She is 16 lb 11 oz which puts her at 67 percentile, and is 26 1/2 inches long, which puts her at 75 percentile. Keeping in mind when she was born she was less than 50 percentile for weight, she is doing awesome. The doctor says she is totally healthy besides some definite signs of teething. We kind of figured that - she's been acting the same way before her first tooth showed up for the past 72 hours or so, although we can't pinpoint where the next one is going to break through.

We also picked up our Christmas photos. Here it is!

My Baby is 6 Months Old Today!

Is it OK to be sad about this? Ryan and I were discussing it last night. It seems like the first 3 months dragged on (and on and on) and the last 3 months have flown by. The first 3 months were continuous crying, struggles with breast feeding, gripe water, more crying, 2 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period (for me) and did I mention crying? The last 3 months have been smiles, giggles, rolling over, playing with toys, saying "da da da" (no "ma ma ma" but we're working on it), even her first tooth, and for the last week, sleeping 12 hours at night (for her, 8 for me which I thought would never happen again). And hitting the 6 month mark also reminds me I have to return to work in less than 6 months. My year of stay at home mom status is more than half over! Life will sure be different once again. Anyway, enough feeling sad for myself - HAPPY 6 MONTH BIRTHDAY KAITLYN (at 8:15 PM PST exactly)!

Kaitlyn has a tooth!

Well, the title says it all! After a few days of her being on and off miserable, her first tooth showed up on Thursday morning. It had been working its way to the surface for a little while and we could feel it. You still have to look pretty hard but it is there. Here are some pictures of Kaitlyn partying with the guys this weekend. Don't worry, she didn't actually drink anything.

New Pictures of Kaitlyn

As promised, here are a few pictures of Kaitlyn I took this week. As you can tell, the camera comes out a lot more than it used to now that I have a digital camera!

Here is Kaitlyn trying to pet the kitten. We're trying to teach her to be gentle and not grab.

And here she is trying to play PS2 with Daddy, although she's considering making a lunge for that remote and changing the CD Daddy is listening to instead...

Here she is just showing off her goofy grin. Do I have a cute kid or what??

I'd Rather Be on a Beach Somewhere...

We were going to Mexico or somewhere warm like that - I quickly packed my bags, we were on the plane, I could see the beautiful ocean in the distance and then - I woke up. It was so real but then real life woke me up. Kaitlyn needed a diaper change and bottle and my day began. So I'm still sitting here in my pjs, longing for the sight of that ocean again and knowing winter is just around the corner. Well, real life is calling again (aka Kaitlyn). I just tried to give her beans - she was not a fan. She makes the cutest faces though. Anyways, better run but I'll try to upload some cute pics I took yesterday a bit later.

Video Montage

Here is a video montage I've been working on using pictures of Kaitlyn up to now. You will need your sound on for the full experience. Hit the play button on the picture to start it. But, if you're using a work computer (especially government work computer), you may not be able to view it. Enjoy!

My First Blog - November 7, 2006

November 7, 2006

Wow! My first blog entry. Hopefully I'm able to keep up with this. I'm not overly internet savvy but hopefully will learn as I go. And now that I have a digital camera, I can post pictures of our beautiful daughter so our family & friends can watch her grow. And growing she is! Kaitlyn started out as a mere 6 lb 2 oz but now weighs in at over 16 pounds! She's outgrown her colic and although she likes to study her subject first, she will give a smile (once she gets to know you). Here are a few pictures from this week.
